Care Case Studies

Health and safety policies and procedures for a dementia support charity.

Case Study: Policies & Procedures

The policyholder is a UK wide charity, which provides support and advice to individuals caring for someone with dementia. They provide service users with practical expert advice, tools and skills to deal with the challenges they face effectively.

They can also provide referrals to appropriate services and liaison with other professionals to provide holistic support when it’s most needed.

The issues

The organisation has grown over recent years to offer a UK wide service. A review of policies and procedures showed its health and safety arrangements were probably outdated and the organisation recognised a need to strengthen this area.

The solution

We can offer social welfare policyholders one day’s input from leading care and health consultancy, Janjer.

The organisation wanted to use their policyholder entitlement to support them with a specific review of their health and safety management arrangements. They wanted to consider key areas such as:

  • Health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Thoroughness of risk assessments for all significant hazards.
  • Whether arrangements for the planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of health and safety are suitable for the size and nature of their service delivery and locational issues.
  • Adequacy of their health and safety training for management and employees.

A specialist health and safety associate from Janjer visited their main location to provide a full review of policies and procedures, a gap analysis and to give recommendations for the future of the organisation.

The charity worked with Janjer to implement and improve in excess of 58 policies, procedures and guidance documents giving the client an improved positioning in terms of their health and safety management arrangements.

Our Insurer Partners Markel International were able to accommodate this risk.
