In 2007, we joined Willis Towers Watson Networks, giving us much greater buying power and enabling us to pass on a wide range of benefits direct to clients, while maintaining our independence and high standard of personal service.
Darren shares joint responsibility for the running of the business with fellow Company Director, Kevin Steven, following a management buyout in October 2001. Overall, this involves overseeing finance, budgeting, compliance and all aspects of HR, including recruitment, assessment and training.
Having joined Melville Burbage in January 1990, initially working on Personal Lines, Darren rose through the ranks, becoming Assistant Manager, Manager and eventually Company Director, working with Commercial Clients and achieving a Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute.
With particular expertise in the Construction and Technology sectors, Darren today splits his time between the Newbury and Melksham offices, working with Commercial Clients, which involves servicing existing policies, handling new business and claims, and providing advice to clients, whether by phone, email or face to face in the office or at client premises.
Working alongside the Melville Burbage team, Darren brings experience, enthusiasm and plenty of hard work to the table and particularly enjoys spending time with clients – understanding their needs, concerns and requirements, and providing appropriate advice and solutions. His aspirations for MBIS include continuing to grow the business and maintaining the company’s core ethos of providing exceptional customer care and service.
Darren lives in Whitchurch, Hampshire and, when not at work, is a music lover and collector of vinyl and enjoys spending time with his wife, children and fox red Labrador. He’s also a keen Spurs fan (COYS!), runs regularly and admits to still playing football (just).
As Commercial Account Handler, Justin is responsible for the printing and engineering sector, dealing with new business, adjustments, renewals and queries for a wide range of small and medium-sized enterprises. When required, he also supports the Personal Lines departments in both the Newbury and Melksham offices.
Starting his career at the age of 18 within an insurance company, Justin worked his way up to the position of Branch Manager, which involved running various offices, before joining Melville Burbage in 2010. He holds a Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute (Cert CII) giving him a thorough understanding of general insurance principles, regulatory requirements and the key disciplines of underwriting and claims.
Justin particularly enjoys the diversity of his role at Melville Burbage, saying that while each day can be different, with its own challenges, he finds it very rewarding providing customers with support, guidance and assistance. Describing himself as a good communicator that is well-organised, friendly, personable and diligent, Justin’s personal goals are to grow his book of business, stand out from the crowd and continue to challenge himself in his chosen path.
Living equi-distant from both Newbury and Melksham offices, in Royal Wootten Bassett, Justin is a keen tennis player within the LTA Swindon & District League and his home town tennis club, although says his main interest is his family and spending time with his beautiful wife and three children.
Ben has been with Melville Burbage since 2018, dividing his time between Newbury and Melksham offices and, as Commercial Account Handler, has wide-ranging duties, ranging from renewals, taking calls and answering emails to handling new business and liaising directly with insurers.
With experience across many different sectors, he particularly relishes a challenging enquiry and is the go-to-guy when a spreadsheet is required! As well as a BA in Politics from the University of Portsmouth, Ben also holds the Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute, giving him a thorough grounding in general insurance.
Prior to this, Ben spent five years working for an insurer as a Call Monitor, ensuring members of staff adhered to FCA regulations whilst on the phone to customers, and prior to that worked in retail as a Department Leader. At Melville Burbage, he enjoys the fact that no day is ever the same: one day he could be arranging insurance for a pickup truck and the next for a conference or festival. It’s this variety that keeps him fully invested in what he does.
Ben was brought up on the idea of treating others as you would wish to be treated and believes it is this approach that has helped him build relationships with customers, colleagues and other insurers. His aspirations are simply to do his best, always offer to help and continually take on new challenges, as learning from experience promotes growth.
Living just 30 minutes from Newbury, Ben particularly enjoys spending time with his wife and son, but also likes swimming, bike-riding and going to the cinema, and also runs a comedy podcast with a friend.
Adrian has worked for Melville Burbage since 2003 and particularly enjoys the fact that it’s like working for a family business! As Account Executive, he manages the Personal Lines as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, which involves such duties as handling new business quotations, renewals and training. He also liaises with Personal Lines insurers and Melville Burbage’s Claims Management company, as well as taking responsibility for various FCA regulatory requirements such as staff audits and sanction checks.
When he left school, Adrian trained with the CAD industry, mainly in construction and the design of roofs, and worked in Computer Aided Design until the company relocated to Cornwall. He made the move but couldn’t settle and, when his brother offered him a temporary job at an insurance broker, he leapt at the chance, moving back to Newbury. What was temporary soon became permanent and the rest is history!
Given his background, Adrian brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, and he also holds the Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute, giving him a thorough grounding in general insurance, including the principles of underwriting, the regulatory environment and managing claims.
Living locally in Thatcham, Adrian is kept very busy by his three children and follows his sons’ interest in athletics. He’s just recently started running again and is also an avid Tottenham Hotspur fan!
